After the cold of winter, one of the first things on many homeowners’ cleaning lists is their windows. This is to let the light in and brighten up the house after so many months of keeping everything shuttered in. Our window replacement experts cover the basics for getting sparkling clean windows with little hassle and effort.

Gather Supplies
Before you start spring-cleaning your windows, prepare all the necessary supplies. You’ll need a window cleaner of your choice (white vinegar or commercial cleaners work great as natural alternatives), microfiber cloths to pick up dirt and debris, a vacuum cleaner with an attachment for cleaning along edges and a ladder if you need to reach higher windows.
Remove Window Coverings
Before you start to clean, remove any window coverings like shutters, blinds or curtains. This will help make the process much easier as you don’t have to maneuver around those extra items.
Clean the Window Frame
Now, it’s time to clean the window frames. Vacuum around the edges with your vacuum cleaner attachment to remove dirt and dust, then wipe them down with a microfiber cloth that has been lightly sprayed with the window cleaner of your choice.
Clean the Glass
Once the frame has been cleaned, it’s time to tackle the glass. Spray your window cleaner on the glass and use a microfiber cloth in a crisscross motion for the best results. The only tricky part is getting those pesky streaks out at the end, but with enough elbow grease (and maybe a second wipe), you should be able to get them spotless.
Clean the Window Sill
Next, move on to the window sill. Again, use your vacuum cleaner attachment to remove dirt and dust from all corners of the sill, then wipe down with a dampened microfiber cloth sprayed with a window cleaner for the best results.
Rehang Window Coverings
Now that you have everything cleaned, all that’s left is to rehang your window coverings. If they require specific placement, take some time here to make sure each item looks exactly right once it’s in place.
And that’s all there is to it! With a little bit of work, you can have sparkling clean windows in no time.
