Spring is here, which means it’s time to buckle down and get serious about spring cleaning. When making your spring cleaning checklist, don’t forget about your windows! One of the best things that you can do for yourself and your home during spring is to thoroughly clean your replacement windows. Clean windows don’t just look better–they also perform better and last longer.
Here are the steps to follow:
Remove the screens: First, take the screens off your windows, if they have any. You’ll need to clean them separately.
Clean the glass: Get a strip washer or a soft dry cloth, dip it in a bucket of water mixed with a bit of mild dish soap, wring excess liquid off, then wash the window with it.
Dry the glass: Next, remove excess water from the window using a squeegee, wiping the squeegee every time it is lifted up. Wipe remaining drips using the microfiber cloth, then wipe the sill and frame dry as well.
Clean the window tracks: Using the same solution and microfiber cloth, being careful to remove dirt and debris. When done, lubricate the tracks using dry silicone spray.
Clean the screen: Clean the screens by brushing dirt and dust off first, then washing them using the same solution and brush. Rinse each screen off using lukewarm water, then let them dry in the space beneath each window so that you don’t lose track of which screen belongs to which window.
